Bleed For This (2016)
It's also so effortlessly entertaining that you leave understanding why there are so many boxer biopics, rather than groaning wishing there were less.

Real Steel (2011)
It was nice to be totally surprised by a big-budget movie.

As it turns out, Grindelwald's biggest crime was excessive exposition.

Adam Sandler: 100% Fresh (2018)
Thankfully, his first comedy special in decades, 100% Fresh, is a refreshingly great bit of entertainment, especially for anyone who has been a fan of the musically-inclined performer since the '90s.

It's not terrible - just longer and not nearly as good as it could be - and there's some obligatory fan service both to the histories of both Sam Axe and Bruce Campbell.

Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
In hindsight, it would be better if this movie didn't exist at all.

At times, the film smartly uses subtitles he is so hard to understand, but the whole movie could use them. However, these are small quibbles for a film that if you"re a longtime Lemmy fan, makes you feel great about having placed your faith in his hands.

Venom is not a good movie, but I also want to make it clear that I had the time of my life watching it.

The Favourite (2018)
In The Favourite, Lanthimos opens up these characters more, yet still keeping the darker aspects of his techniques intact.

The Old Man & the Gun (2018)
At any point in the film, you can substitute 'robbing banks' for 'making movies' and it still all makes perfect sense. Here's Redford, now 82 years old, in a role where he looks like a gosh darn kid.

The Sisters Brothers (2018)
The Sisters Brothers doesn't have the same vibe as, say, Unforgiven, but it has the same quality of making us look at things from a different perspective.

A Quiet Place (2018)
A Quiet Place sits comfortably in the fun, poppy subgenre of horror, a popcorn thriller more than a dread-infused meditation on terror, but manages to play around with its own setting and characters enough to stand out.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018)
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is almost aggressively a movie for everyone to enjoy, a bouncy escape from reality where all problems are resolved in the time it takes to belt out a couple tunes.

Simply put, Mission: Impossible - Fallout is the best action movie you will see this year. You'll probably leave the theater overcome with an urge to go jumping from building to building.

Skyscraper could have been ridiculous fun! Or, it could have gone full-on '70s era dramatic disaster movie. Instead, it's somewhere in the middle and just kind of flounders.

Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)
Ant-Man and the Wasp is a two-hour mental break when a lot of people could need a mental break.... I mean this as a huge compliment.

Everything, Everything (2017)
Those looking for a funny or provocative teen film will likely be disappointed, but Everything, Everything possesses enough moments of charm to make the manipulation somewhat forgivable.

The Kissing Booth (2018)
I can confirm that it's not a good film. In fact, its themes are at times unsettling.

Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018)
Sicario: Day of the Soldado is an intense, at times morally ambiguous, and gritty thriller that will leave you wanting more. And, now, Benicio del Toro finally has a franchise of his own.

Clear History (2013)
The revenge plot brings the characters together...and doesn't come together as satisfyingly as your average "Curb" episode... [but] the funny parts of "Clear History" are good enough to act as an acceptable 100-minute substitute.

Incredibles 2 (2018)
It feels like a direct extension of the first film. It feels like a movie that could have easily come out in 2006 as opposed to now, which is what makes Incredibles 2 so fun.

There is a little bit of the wonder and joy that made the original so special embedded deep within Fallen Kingdom, which I credit to Bayona, whose primary drive has always been to sprinkle just enough emotion into the stories he tells.

Love, Gilda (2018)
In the case of Love, Gilda, it's all there. Gilda Radner never knew Lisa D'Apolito, but Radner left the filmmaker one heck of a gift. And watching Gilda Radner perform is still a gift, and now she left us all one more.

The Strangers: Prey At Night (2018)
From the first notes of Adrian Johnston's John Carpenter-inspired score to the retro font used for the title card, Prey At Night sets itself up as an homage to classic slasher films, and mostly does right by its inspirations.

The Cloverfield Paradox (2018)
With its haphazard plot twists and muddy motivations, Paradox mostly takes the boring parts from Life, Alien: Covenant, Event Horizon, and Interstellar ... with a hint of one of the lesser Black Mirror episodes, and adds the word Cloverfield.
